Governance purpose

Protecting the Association's mission and continuity

Effective governance helps SPAG remain focused on its professional mandate while responding responsibly to the needs of members, healthcare partners and the wider public.

The Association distinguishes elected or appointed leadership from operational system permissions. This separation supports appropriate oversight, protects institutional records and ensures that authority is assigned for a clear purpose.

Appointment records should show who served, the office held and the period of responsibility, preserving continuity as leadership changes over time.

Governance safeguards

  • Governance office does not automatically grant unrestricted system administration.
  • Board and executive appointments are recorded independently from membership status.
  • Appointment start and end dates preserve an accurate history of service.
  • Roles and permissions are assigned according to operational responsibility.
  • Elections and nominations remain separate from permanent member identity and membership administration.
